What time of day do I have to put my rubbish or recycling out?

By 6am on the scheduled day

What do I do if my bins are missed?

As long as your bin is out at the kerbside by 6am and the lid is closed your bin should not be missed. However, if it has been missed either call our customer hotline on 01784 451499 or email customer.services@spelthorne.gov.uk

What happens if I forget to put my bin out?

You will have to wait until your next rubbish or recycling collection.

Will the Council take extra bags left by the side of the bin?

No excess rubbish will be taken and also bin lids must be closed for the bin to be collected.

However, we will be collecting additional recyclable material if put out in a see-through plastic bag at the side of your recycling bin.  All glass must be put in the recycling bin.

Why don’t you empty both bins at the same time?

To avoid contaminating the recyclable materials with general rubbish.

Will councils save money from the new rubbish and recycling service?

Anything that reduces rubbish sent to landfill will prevent ongoing increases in cost to taxpayers. The cost of landfill is rising as space runs out and the tax on rubbish sent to landfill will rise to £32 per tonne in 2008. But this isn’t simply about money. It is about saving the environment, with rubbish sent to landfill contributing to climate change by emitting harmful gases.

Assisted collections

If you already have help with you bin collection, this service will continue. If anyone feels they have a physical problem with moving the bins, they should call 01784 451499 for a visit.
