Can you remove rubbish that has been dumped in my garden?
Unfortunately Spelthorne Borough Council are unable to remove any items which have been left on private land/property free of charge, you would need to either dispose of the rubbish yourself or contact Direct services and ask us to provide you with an estimate for removal.
How do I dispose of asbestos wastes?
Most asbestos waste found in the typical household comes from old garages and sheds, which were made of cement, bonded asbestos fibre panels. Such panels and any other asbestos wastes can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Charlton Lane, where you will find a dedicated facility for the receipt, storage and onward transportation of asbestos wastes. Who do I contact to clear rubbish or fly tipping from a piece of land, rear or side passageway?
Rear access passageways are generally private property, they are the shared responsibility of all residents who have access to them, and consequently the duty to maintain and cleanse them falls to the residents.
Why do we not catch and prosecute fly tippers?
Spelthorne Borough Council aim to prosecute fly tippers on any occasion that a solid case can be prepared. The local community needs to come forward and assist in identifying offenders so that more prosecutions can be processed. The introduction of CCTV cameras is an area, which is being pursued by the council, but there are difficulties involved in siting them in the type of areas where most fly tipping occurs.
How do I dispose of bulky items of household waste or fridges and freezers?
We can arrange to collect large items such as fridge freezers, beds, cookers and mattresses. There is a charge of £30 for up to three items and £5 per extra item. Those in receipt of "income support or pension credit" will have the first three items collected at a reduced rate of £20. This will apply to one collection per 12 months.
To arrange for collection simply fill in the online form which allows you to make your payment using a credit or debit card or alternatively if you wish to pay by cheque fill in the form and return to PO Box 290 Spelthorne Borough Council Knowle Green Staines TW18 1XB The Depot will contact you to arrange a date for collection.
Spelthorne are currently looking at alternative methods for the disposal of garden waste in the meantime you can purchase garden waste sacks at Spelthorne Day Centres, Libraries or the Council Offices for 40p each, these can be put out for collection with your normal domestic waste. Garden waste in plain sacks not bought from Spelthorne will not be collected. Alternatively you can take your waste to Charlton Lane Waste Transfer Station where it will be composted.
My bin has not been emptied whom can I report it to?
Incidents of fly tipping should be reported to Direct Services 01784 446411 or e-mail direct.services@spelthorne.gov.uk. It would be helpful when reporting these incidents if you could make a note of the time/location/what has been dumped/the make, model & reg number of any vehicle being used.
Who is responsible for waste dumped illegally?
Spelthorne Borough Council is responsible for clearing fly tips on adopted highway and it’s own land. If the fly tipping has occurred on private land then it is the landlord or tenant who is responsible for removing the waste dumped illegally.
