Benwell consultation period extended
Published 29.04.2008 13:05
Spelthorne Council has decided to extend the consultation period for the new Benwell Extra Care Housing and Day Centre from three weeks to nine weeks.

This is in response to requests from some members of the public who felt there was insufficient time to respond. Although the Council was meeting its legal obligations with the statutory three-week consultation period, it has taken comments on board and lengthened it considerably. All responses should be sent to Deputy Chief Executive Nigel Lynn at the Council Offices, Knowle Green, TW18 1XB or via e-mail to: n.lynn@spelthorne.gov.uk

The planning application for the new centre was received at the beginning of April and plans are available to view at the Council Offices in Knowle Green or on our planning system and type in the planning reference 08/00297/FUL.

The Centre will be made up of 39 units of ExtraCare housing with 24-hour personal care – there will be 12 to buy, 15 for shared ownership and 12 for rent of which more than two-thirds will be affordable.

There will be an activity room, a restaurant opening seven days a week, a hobby and IT room and a hairdressing/therapy room.

Councillor Vivienne Leighton, Portfolio Holder for Adult and Elderly Services commented:

“I am really delighted about this new centre which will have pride of place in Sunbury and provide residents with the high quality services that we, and they, want and deserve. We do need to be sure that we have looked at every angle and listened to what people are telling us, hence the longer consultation period that we are proposing. I do urge everyone to have their say before 7 June.”
