Anyone who plans to sell or supply alcohol or authorise the sale of alcohol must apply for a Personal Licence.
In order to apply, you must be aged 18 or over and (in almost all cases) hold a licensing qualification.
If you are applying for a personal licence, you must obtain an accredited qualification first. The aim of the qualification is to ensure that licence holders are aware of licensing law and the wider social responsibilities involved in the sale of alcohol.
You will also need to declare any relevant criminal convictions and provide a basic criminal conviction disclosure form. This can be obtained online from www.gov.uk

Please also note that your right to work in the UK will be checked as part of your licensing application and this could involve us checking your immigration status.
If there are relevant offences, the police can make a representation against the application on crime prevention grounds. If the police make a representation then there will be a hearing of the application as described above.
Similarly, if there are relevant immigration offences or penalties, the Home Office (Immigration Enforcement) can serve the licensing authority with an immigration objection notice. If an immigration objection notice is received then there will be a hearing of the application as described above.

The Government abolished the need to renew personal licences under the Licensing Act 2003 in April 2015. There is no need to renew a personal licence even though it will have an expiry date if it was issued prior to April 2015.
