The Mayor of Spelthorne, Jean Pinkerton OBE, got runners underway for the 2019 Staines 10K on Sunday 12 May.
The race, organised by Staines Strollers and Runnymede Runners, with support from Spelthorne Borough Council, saw a record number of 712 runners. The men's race was won by Stephen Blake from Woking Athletics Club who finished well ahead of the field in a time of 32 minutes 44 seconds, the exact same time that he won the race last year! The women's race was won by Caroline Hoyte who completed the course in 36 minutes 53 seconds.
This year's event was supported by over 70 marshals and volunteers. Drinks stations were provided by young people from 1st Shepperton Guides and a householder on Commercial Road. Everyone Active lead a warm-up before the event and Laleham Camera Club took a substantial album of photos. Cousins Fruiterers provided bananas for all finishers, and this year, all the participants received a technical t-shirt and medal.
Ken Saunders, Race Director said: "It was another fantastic year for the Staines 10K and incredible to see a record number of runners taking part again. The community spirit really shone through this year - one participant was even supported down the final leg and over the finish line by fellow runners. Thank you to the committee members, marshals and volunteers, and all the sponsors for their very generous support."
Many thanks to our sponsors: Wilkins Kennedy, Rowberry Morris Solicitors, Mova Hairdressing, Brewers, Stream AMP, London House Companies, Thames Side Brewery, AC Breeze Air Conditioning, Staines BID, The Frame Workshop, Everyone Active, Staines Chiropractic Clinic and Apex Sports.
