A heart-warming and thought-provoking poem sent in by Spelthorne resident Barry Dix to our Community Day Centre managers.

As lockdown continues to ease lets still remember to check in on friends, family and neighbours.

To dear Sue and Juliet
It seems like ages since we met
How strange it must be for you
That great big centre and just you two
The days, the weeks, the months, a blur
Just her and you, and you and her
And sad for those who miss it so
With lonely days and no place to go
No lunchtime culinary delights
No coach trips seeing all the sights
No yoga-goers clutching mats
No bingo calls, no cosy chats
No artistic flair, no singing sessions
No carpet bowls, no German lessons
But rest assured, one glorious day
We'll all be heading back that way
For fish and chips, tea and a snack
For bonus ball and bric-a-brac
And how we'll value so much more
All we took for granted before
The centre busy and thriving again
To prove there's sunshine after rain
