Knife amnesty launched to help keep Surrey streets safe

The Spelthorne Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and the Borough Council are urging people to hand over knives at police stations across the county as part of the national knife amnesty.

25 police stations in Surrey including Staines, Ashford and Sunbury Police Stations, have secure red wheelie bins installed at front counters. Until 30 June people are being given the chance to bin their knives at these locations without the fear of being prosecuted.

A joint billboard and poster campaign by the Home Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers is warning people about the dangers of carrying knives and encouraging them to dispose of knives at their local police station.

Surrey is one of the safest counties in the UK for violent crime. However, all communities can be affected by knife crime and we have all seen the tragic affects a culture of knife possession can have.

Making Spelthorne Safer is a key priority for the Partnership and the Borough Council.
