How the housing register worksThe Spelthorne Housing Register was set up by us and our housing association partners. It lists the details of people who want a home because theirs is not suitable for any reason. Who can apply for housing?Any person over 16 can apply to go on the register. It does not matter whether they own or rent their current home, live with their family, or live in a caravan or on a boat. The only people who cannot apply to go on the register are explained below.
People from abroad Certain people from abroad cannot be considered for council or housing association housing. The rules are too complicated to set out in full here. If you are not a British citizen, you may need to come for a meeting with us so we get all the information we need to decide if you can go on the housing register.
People who have behaved in an unacceptable way If, at the time you apply to go on the housing register, you (or a member of your household) are considered to have behaved in a way that makes you unsuitable to be a tenant.
If you cannot go on the housing register, we will tell you in writing. We will also tell you that you have a legal right to have the decision reviewed by a senior officer, and how you can ask for a review. Why should I go on the housing register? The housing register gives you access to accommodation provided in the borough by a number of housing associations, this includes rented accommodation, shared ownership and keyworker housing. We do not own any housing, but we can put people forward for most housing association properties in the borough. For some properties, the relevant housing association can also offer their homes directly to people on the housing register. So by filling in the application form to go on the Spelthorne Housing Register you can be registered for housing with all the organisations involved in this joint venture. If you are already a housing association tenant in the Spelthorne area, special arrangements apply. How do I apply? You can get an application form from our offices at Knowle Green, Staines. You can either call in to collect a form, orcontact us and ask us to send you one. You can also download a form.Graphical Version l
