Childminders are required to register with the local Social Services if they look after children under eight for more than two hours per day. Registration of childminders is carried out by the Day Care Advisers and they are responsible for the regular reviews of the childminders. Although all registered childminders have undergone a number of checks to ensure they adhere to guidelines of good practice, it is recommended that visits are made to a number of childminders to compare levels of care. To purchase a booklet called "Choosing a Childminder - a Guide for Parents" contact: NCMA, 8 Masons Hill, Bromley, BR2 9EY or telephone 020 8464 6164. Further information about childcare can be found on Surrey County Council's website.
