Get composting today - for a greener tomorrow Whether you're a keen gardener or just want to choose the greenest, most natural way to deal with your food and garden waste, composting is the perfect solution. Grass cuttings, dried leaves, twigs and vegetable peelings are just some of the ingredients that can go into a compost bin or heap to make peat-free compost - ideal to use in potting or planting.
Getting startedGetting started is easy. All you need is a compost bin or a small space in the garden to create a heap. Then just follow our easy guide (external link) to creating your own supply of natural food for your garden. To buy a bin from only £15 or to make your own, visit here (external link).
Give your mix a Christmas present Many of us will have extra waste over the festive period. Your compost mix will benefit from adding a few of the telltale signs of Christmas; fallen poinsettia leaves, vegetable peelings from your Christmas dinner, scrunched up wrapping paper, satsuma peel and egg shells - ideal to use in potting or planting in your garden or alloment. Food digesters Visit our Food digesters page for information on discounted Green Cones and Green Johannas. If  you do not wish to use the councils garden collection scheme or compost bins then please take your garden waste to Charlton Lane Community Recycling Centre. If you have any further queries please contact our help line on 01784 451499.
