Have your circumstances changed since you first moved into your current home? Have your children grown up and moved out? Do you have more bedrooms than you need? Could your utility bills be less if you were in a smaller property? Are the stairs becoming difficult for you to manage? We are launching a ‘cash for downsizing’ scheme in partnership with A2Dominion Housing Association, which could benefit you if you are an existing A2Dominion resident and live in this Borough. If you are living in a property with two or more bedrooms and are willing to move into a one bedroom home within the same area, we will give you £1,000 for each bedroom that you release. We will pay you half of the amount, and A2Dominion will pay the other half. As well as the cash that you will receive for taking part in this scheme, we will also reimburse you up to £500 for removal costs, and provide you with a ‘man with a van’ who will dispose of any unwanted furniture or belongings that you no longer need. We will also consider any aids and adaptations that you may need at the new property. Long-term benefits of this scheme could include a reduction in your utility costs and Council Tax, as well as the possibility of moving to a better location. This scheme will also increase the number of larger homes which will go a long way to help with the shortage of affordable, family-sized properties in the Borough. If you would like further information about this scheme, please contact the Housing Options team on 01784 446383, e mail housingneeds@spelthorne.gov.uk or Steven Murphy, A2Dominion Lettings Manager, on 0845 408 6745, email steven.murphy@a2hg.co.uk. We are also hoping to offer this incentive in other areas soon. If you do not live within the Spelthorne Borough but think you may be interested, please let us know by contacting Steve Murphy on the contact details above.
