| Description: | The Borough of Spelthorne Environmental Health is responsible for ensuring that HMO’s meet certain basic health, safety and welfare standards. The term house in multiple occupation is defined in the Housing Act as a house or flat which is occupied by persons who do not form a single household. It is recognised that HMOs provide a valuable source of readily accessible, low cost accommodation, however due to the characteristics of such accommodation, special care must be taken by landlords and letting agents to ensure that HMO’s remain in good repair and are provided with sufficient facilities and are safe with regard to fire safety. | ||||||||||
