Wasted food costs the average family with children £680 every year and its bad for the environment too.However we also know that cutting down on food waste can be a challenge, especially when you're pushed for time and your kids don't always want to eat what you've cooked for them. So to help you waste less, Surrey County Council's Love Food Surrey (external link) campaign provides helpful tips on how to plan your meals, perfect the right portions, store correctly and use up leftovers.
As well as highlighting the cost of food waste to resident's pockets and the environment, the Love Food Surrey (external link) website offers a whole host of advice, tips and leftover recipes, developed by Surrey chef Carmela Tomkins. Residents can also find out about road shows coming to their local area, offer their own tips and recipes for others to share, make a pledge to reduce food waste and enter regular competitions with great prizes.
