The chip carries a unique reference number, similar to a barcode, that can identify the bin should it go missing.Do I have to use these bins?Yes. This is the Council’s new rubbish and recycling collection service.What happens if my bin gets damaged?A new bin will be supplied free of charge if the damage is the fault of the Council. Why have you left a tag / sticker on my bin?The red tag has been left on your rubbish bin because you either have excess rubbish or your bin lid was not closed, or your bin may be too heavy or contain DIY rubbish.You may have recieved a yellow tag on your recycling bin because it contains items that cannot be recycled. This kind of contamination can cause a whole lorry load of recycling to be rejected and sent to landfill.In either case, your bin will not have been emptied and you will have to wait until the next appropriate collection date.Where should I leave my bin?On the kerbside by 6am on the scheduled day of collectionWhat if I can’t move my bin?If you already have help with your bin collection, this service will continue. If anyone feels they have a physical problem with moving their bins, they should call 01784 451499 for a visit.I live in a terraced house. Where should I leave my bin?Bins can be stored on your property in the location most convenient to you, but on the scheduled collection day the bin must be placed at the kerbside by 6am.If I have a large family, will I get a bigger bin?Everyone will have two 240l bins, however if after recycling everything that you can you still have a problem with the size of the rubbish bin please call the customer helpline to discuss your needs.If I am on my own, will I get a smaller bin·We would recommend that you use the standard 240 litre bin. If you can be certain that this bin will be too big for your needs throughout the year and feel you can manage with 140 litres per fortnight, please contact 01784 451499 to request smaller bins.Does the lid of the bin have to be firmly down?Yes – this will also ensure that vermin do not get into the bins.I have nowhere to put a big wheelie bin, let alone two. What do I do?Properties that don’t have space to put wheelie bins will remain on a collection system where rubbish is collected each week until different arrangements have been developed. There will be no separate recycling collection during this time.What colour will the wheelie bins be?Dark green for general rubbish and light green for dry recyclables (paper, plastic bottles, cardboard, glass and cans).What happens to my wheelie bins if I move house?The wheelie bin belongs to the Council so must stay on the property when you move.Are different sizes of bins available?There are different sizes available, depending on the size of your household. If you have more than five people in the house, you may be able to get a second 240 litre bin for either rubbish or recycling. Alternatively if you find the 240 litre bin is too large for your needs and you are confident that if you have a smaller bin, you really can contain all your rubbish in it, you can request a 140 litre bin.I already have a wheelie bin, what should I do with it?We will offer a free wheelie bin collection service and will recycle the old bin if residents do not wish to retain their own bins.
