Does it matter how heavy they are?
Yes. Each sack should not weigh more than 10k.

How do I get some biodegradable sacks?
You can buy them at libraries, day centres and the Council Offices. You can also buy online and over the telephone.

How many sacks will the collector take?
As many as you would like to put out, provided they are Spelthorne's Biodegradable ones.

How much are the sacks?
In the first year they are 50p each. There may be a small charge for postage and packing for sacks bought online or by telephone.

I don't want to pay for sacks, is there any other way I can recycle my garden waste?
Yes you can buy a home compost bin to use in your garden – contact our help line or website.  You can also take garden waste to Charlton Lane Civic Amenity Site and put it through the garden waste window.

I still have some old green sacks, can I still use these?
No. Because they are not biodegradable we cannot take them after 28 February 2005. However you can exchange old sacks for new ones on a one to one basis.

What happens if my collection falls on a Bank Holiday?
Your collection will always be on the same day as your refuse collection. Look in your local press for information on changed days of collection over bank holidays.

What happens if my sack is not collected?
Check your sack to see if it has a contamination sticker on it. If it contains material that cannot be composted then we will not collect it, and you will need to dispose of it yourself. If the sack does not have a sticker on it call our helpline on 01784 451499 to arrange for it to be picked up.

When is the collection?
Each week on the same day as your refuse collection.

Where do I put my sack?
At the edge of your property, where it meets the pavement.
