Published 24.05.2011 09:47 A new course record was set in the women’s event at the Staines 10K on 15 May with Rose Nicholson of Woking AC sprinting home in a time of 37minutes and 12 seconds, knocking 18 seconds off the previous record. A record number of runners took part in the annual event with 540 runners completing the course. The men’s event was won for the third year running by Christopher Dettmar in a time of 33 minutes and 48 seconds. The race, organised by Staines Strollers and Runnymede Runners with support from Spelthorne Borough Council, started and finished outside the council offices in Knowle Green. A team of enthusiastic marshals consisting of volunteers from local clubs provided valuable support throughout the race and ensured that there was minimal impact to other road users. Ken Saunders, Race Director said: “It is a fantastic to see so many runners taking part in this well established race and great to see many of the runners returning year after year. The previous course record has stood for 5 years and it is brilliant to see it broken”. The event was made possible by the kind support of sponsors, Brewers, The Old Red Lion public house, Everyone Active, Cousins Fruiterers, Nu:U personal training, Mova hairdressing, Refresh juice café and Apex Sports. All proceeds from the event will be donated to local charities. The full results of the 2011 race are available on the Staines 10k website, www.staines10k.co.uk and details of the 2012 race will be available there in the autumn.
