Description: n the Borough of Spelthorne, smoke is controlled by The Clean Air Act 1993 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Part III - Statutory Nuisances and Clean Air. Most of the borough is a smoke free zone – this only affects smoke from chimneys. There is no law to prohibit bonfires provided they are not causing a nuisance, and commercial bonfires are not producing black smoke. Bonfire complaints to Environmental Health may require the completion of diary sheets by the complainant to allow the department to assess the extent of the nuisance.
