There are currently no livestock markets in Spelthorne. The legislation governing the welfare of animals in markets is enforced by Trading standards and Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
Animal Health Officers regularly visit farms, abattoirs, and transit points to check that the health of livestock is maintained. They respond to complaints both on farm and in transit and enforce extensive farm animal legislation supported by codes of practice laid down by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
