Description: The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected annually in May by the Borough Council from amongst the Councillors, in accordance with the procedure rules set out in the Council's Constitution. The Mayor's role is to fulfil a range of ceremonial and public functions on behalf of the Council and chair Council meetings. The Mayor, as First Citizen of the Borough, is traditionally expected to avoid major political activities during their term of office and not take an active part in political decisions. The Mayor is not a member of the Executive or any Committees for this reason.
