Description: Advertising in the UK is mainly controlled through codes of practice. In the case of advertisements in the non-broadcast media, the Advertising Standards Authority http://www.asa.org.uk/ oversees and acts to ensure compliance with the British Code of Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing. The Code is the body of rules the advertising industry draws up andn essence, it requires advertisements to be legal, decent, honest and truthful and to be prepared with a sense of responsibility to consumers and society at large.
