Private renting
Private renting is expensive in Surrey, but if you are on a low income or benefits, you may be able to get some Local Housing Allowance (Housing Benefit) to help you with your rent.  The amount of help you get will depend upon the number of bedrooms you need and the amount of income and savings/capital that you have.  Our private rented accommodation leaflet (Pdf 502kb) offers you advice and will help you decide what to do.

You should always get advice if you have been asked to leave your accommodation. We can check whether you have a legal right to stay in your current property as landlords and mortgage lenders have eviction rules to follow, you are entitled to written notice and a court order. Even if you have already left your property, you may be able to move back in. If you live with your landlord as a lodger there are fewer rules for them to follow, but they should still give you reasonable notice.
