What is it?

In the most basic terms, ‘climate change’ is a change in the weather conditions which prevail in a certain area, and is the result of the increasing temperature of the earth's surface. This increase in temperature is occurring faster than it would naturally, which raises many questions as to the cause. The science for the whole planet is very complex, but many scientists believe that our actions are a major contributing factor.

Carbon emissions

Carbon emissions refer to gaseous carbon dioxide, a by-product associated with a lot of human actions. Anything that requires energy such as electricity, transport and food and goods production will have produced carbon dioxide in its manufacture. In industrialised nations it makes up 80% of the greenhouse gas emissions. Why do we focus on reducing carbon?

Carbon dioxide, although not the most potent of the greenhouse gases is the one released in largest volume though everyday industry and living. It accounts for 80% of all emissions from industrialised countries. It will also be the easiest to reduce in the greatest volume.

What can be done?

Climate change is happening and some damage has already been done. But everything we do now will serve to reduce the impacts and slow the changes we experience. Climate change can be addressed through many day-to-day actions that are quick and simple to implement, most of them will save you money too!
