Contaminated land public register
To provide a permanent record, and to make information readily available to the public and to those with an interest in land, the Council maintains a register of all regulatory action in respect of the remediation of contaminated land. The register includes specified details about the condition of the land, and the remediation actions carried out. Specifically, Schedule 3 of the Environmental Information Regulations requires information to be kept on the register in respect of: -
- remediation notices
- appeals against remediation notices
- remediation declarations
- remediation statements
- appeals against charging notices
- designation of special sites
- notification of claimed remediation
- convictions for offences under section 78M of the Act
- guidance issued under section 78V(1) of the Act
- other matters prescribed by regulations

There is no charge for accessing the public register, however, a small charge will be made for the photocopying of information.

The absence of an entry on the register does not guarantee that
- the land is free from contamination, as it may not have been fully assessed
- the contamination present does not pose significant risk
- contamination present is not polluting controlled waters.
