Ujam
Ujam Ujam, the free youth festival, took place on Thursday 12 August 2010 in Staines High Street and was attended by over 1000 people.
A stage was erected for performances by local young people from Spelthorne and Runnymede including musicians Katie Harper, Caroline Bradshaw and According To You; dance groups Urban Dance School and Ombrascura and DJs, The Toxic Twins and DJ Ted.

Young people attending the free event could also take part in the various workshops including DJing, electric guitar lessons, free running, digital graffiti, MiPod and DemoPod and the famous Spelthorne i:dance dance mats.

Councillor Denise Grant, Cabinet Member for Culture and Young People said: “This summer has seen a lot of free events for children and young people and Ujam is great because it really shows what a wealth of talent we have in Spelthorne and in Runnymede. There was a great atmosphere in the High Street which is good for local businesses too”.

Councillor Caroline Spencer attended the event on behalf of the Mayor and said: “I am so pleased that so many young people have come along to the event. It’s a really good opportunity for people to try new things and have a great afternoon out with their friends”.

The event was organised by Spelthorne and Runnymede Youth Councils working with Spelthorne and Runnymede Borough Councils and the Spelthorne Safer Stronger Partnership.
