Touring theatre initiative
As you may know Spelthorne is part of the Surrey Arts Partnership. This partnership with Surrey Arts Development Officers and the Arts Council develops projects for the community to either;

  • promote health and well being
  • engage young people
  • maximize resources within each area
  • develop access and inclusion within the arts.
One of the notions launched by the partnership was to try to encourage more people to attend the theatre in order to develop their cultural awareness, social skills and community interaction.

Here at Spelthorne we are progressing with this idea by attempting to bring well known professional performance companies to the Borough. This will mean that Spelthorne residents and visitors will be able to see top class performances on their doorstep for a fraction of the cost of a West End ticket.

One of the first ventures is bringing Ensemble Theatre Company to Shepperton during their National Tour of the acclaimed musical performance of ‘Ay Carmela!’ The Artistic Director of Ensemble, Elizabeth Mansfield, is actually a Spethorne resident and is enthusiastic to develop theatre within the borough.

As we are actively encouraging participation in drama for young people through the Spelthorne Youth Theatre Company, Spelthorne Borough Council will also be bringing family Performing Arts shows to the Borough under the umbrella theme of ‘Theatre for the Whole Family!’.
