How to set up a residents' association
If there is no residents’ association in your area, why not set one up?  Acting as a group gives
people a greater voice about local issues, helps organisations to communicate with residents
and can strengthen community spirit.  Steps to setting up a residents’ association include:

  • talk to people in the area to find out if they are interested
  • decide on what area you will cover
  • elect a committee
  • agree a constitution
  • organise publicity to tell people about the group
The Tenant Participation Advisory Service publishes useful leaflets on setting up residents'
associations.  For more information, call 0161 868 3500 or go to
www.tpas.org.uk
(external website)

If you are a housing association tenant, the association will be able to help you in getting
more involved on your estate.
