Armed Forces Flag Day 2009 At 10.30am today (Monday, 22 June) Spelthorne Borough Council joined local authorities across the country in raising a specially designed flag for our armed services.

At the ceremony, held at the front of the Council Offices, The Mayor, Councillor Caroline Spencer was joined by dignitaries from uniformed service organisations and representatives from the Borough Council and its staff, County Councillors, local school children and other uniformed organisations including the Police and Fire & Rescue Service.

The flag was raised to the sounds of a Bugler, Sgt Jason Pickin of the Grenadier Guards Band.
The Mayor said: “Armed Forces Day is a unique opportunity for the Borough, as part of a nationwide event, to show it’s appreciation of the work, dedication and sacrifices or our armed services, both in the past and future”.

Armed Forces Day itself will be commemorated on June 27 and the flag will be flown until 29 June.
