Ashford Health Centre goes live
Published 26.06.2009 16:21
he new Ashford Health Centre, based at Ashford Hospital, will open to patients on 1 July.

The health centre will open from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year and will be part of a fully refurbished walk-in centre, previously run by Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust.

The new service will employ an expanded medical team including four experienced GPs which means that the range of conditions that can be treated at the centre will increase. For example, the walk-in centre could not treat babies and very young children – having a doctor on site means that this will change. After 10pm people needing urgent care will continue to have access to a GP on site through the night.

Patients can also register with the practice, like any other surgery, and those that do will also be able to book appointments in advance and in time will be able to receive specialist services such as ante-natal care, diabetes care, sexual health services, drug and alcohol support and weight management schemes.

Patients who prefer not to register with the practice can continue to use it as a walk-in facility if required.

The first phase of the refurbishment of the health centre has now been completed. Further work will result in additional space becoming available in September 2009 at which time there will be an official launch of the new centre.

The new health centre is the first of two major developments in the area, with a project to create a purpose built health centre for patients of St David’s Health Centre also well underway and in the advanced stages of legal negotiations. The new facility at St David’s Health Centre will include treatment rooms, a range of outpatient appointments, dedicated space for therapy services and facilities for minor surgery.
