Parking charge proposals dropped
Published 28.03.2007 10:21
Spelthorne Council has decided to drop its proposals to charge for car parking in Green Street car park, Lower Sunbury.

Following consultation with residents, significant opposition to the proposals has emerged despite the fact that the car parking charges suggested were low at 20p for up to one hour and £1 for all day.

The objections were varied but the largest number (26) protested on the grounds that it would force drivers out of the car park and onto Green Street and surrounding areas, causing difficulties with parking for residents and potential loss of custom for local businesses.

Head of Environment Services Sandy Muirhead said:

“We have done what we said we would do and listened to what people have said to us and acted on it. This has been a genuine consultation exercise and we are grateful to those who have taken the time to give us their views.”
