Nominate an Unsung Hero for a Spelthorne Sports Award
Published 22.05.2007 16:36
Does your sports club have a special person who works tirelessly to make sure things keep running smoothly? Do you have a particularly gifted player or team that have achieved great things over the past 12 months? If so, you may want to nominate them for a Spelthorne Sports Award.

The Spelthorne Sports Awards are organised by Spelthorne Sports Council and Spelthorne Borough Council to celebrate sports achievements within the Borough. The awards are being sponsored by Staines Insurance Consultants Ltd and A2 Housing Group.  They will include the Sports Awards and a celebration of the achievements of Spelthorne’s young people at the Surrey Youth Games.

Anyone can nominate someone for an award and information about the award categories and how to nominate can be found on Spelthorne’s website www.spelthorne.gov.uk/sportsawards or by telephoning 01784 446433. The nomination form can be completed online or as a hard copy and sent in using a Freepost address. The closing date for nominations is Friday 8 June.

Those short-listed for an award will be invited to the awards evening, which will take place on Wednesday 25 July at the John Crook Theatre in Shepperton. The awards promise to be the biggest and best yet and will also feature a guest speaker. Winners from the Spelthorne Sports Awards will go forward to the Surrey Sports Awards, which are being held in October.

Councillor Huseini Jaffer, Chairman of Spelthorne Sports Council, said:

“The Spelthorne Sports Awards act as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of sport in Spelthorne. Many of the award winners are volunteers, giving up their time for the benefit of others and it is great to be able to reward them for the valuable work they carry out within the community. It is also fantastic to see young sports people with the potential to represent Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympic Games being recognised at these awards.”
