Families visiting Staines Park on Wednesday 1 August were treated to Playday, the annual celebration of children’s right to play. This year’s theme, Our streets too, highlighted that children want and need to play and that play friendly places are beneficial to the whole community. Over 500 local family members came with their picnics to join in the fun and celebrate this wonderful day. Activities included arts and crafts, face painting, story telling and free play, and train rides. To illustrate the importance of being safe whilst out playing there was information displays and leaflets to hand regarding cycling, skating, and general safety. At one point in the afternoon there was even a visit from the road safety Hedgehog. The free event was organised by Spelthorne Borough Council in partnership with Home-Start Spelthorne who were very pleased with the events success. The Mayor and Mayoress of Spelthorne also attended the event and commented: ‘’I was delighted to see how many families took advantage of the different activities that were available in the park. It was lovely to see so many smiling faces and the obvious enthusiasm from all the participants. My wife and I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to join in and take a ride on the model railway.’’ For further information please ring 01784 446297 or 444260. |
