Benwell and Stanwell centres - your views needed
Published 01.11.2007 14:18
Don’t miss the chance to make your views known about the stimulating new developments planned for the Benwell Community Centre with ExtraCare housing in Sunbury and the Stanwell Health and Community Centre.

Come and see the proposed plans before they go through the planning process as follows- :

  • Stanwell Health and Community Centre
12 November from 4-8pm at 2 Laburnam Way, Stanwell
  • Benwell Community Centre and ExtraCare housing
13 November from 4-8pm at St Paul’s Catholic College, The Ridings, Green Street, Sunbury

Staff from Ashley House, who are masterminding plans for the development at Stanwell, will be on hand as will staff from Spelthorne Council, Surrey County Council the Primary Care Trust and local medical practices. For Benwell, Notting Hill Housing and Council staff will be able to give information and answer questions. Plans and artists’ impressions will be available for viewing.

At Benwell, the plan is for 39 ExtraCare housing units, all purpose built and fully adaptable to support, and give a safe and secure environment for, older people. As well as a comprehensive range of facilities including lounges and a restaurant, services such as 24-hour personal care if required will be available. These facilities and services will encourage the continuing independence of older people for as long as possible while also supporting the more vulnerable and frail.

Stanwell will have a state of the art health centre which, together with housing improvements planned for the area, will vastly increase local facilities. There will be a new doctor’s surgery including a pharmacy, treatment room, community café, a new library with IT facilities, 35 parking spaces and a community information centre.

Councillor Vivienne Leighton, Portfolio Holder for Adult and Elderly Services said: “Please do come along to the sessions and discuss the proposals over a cup of tea. When you see the plans, we hope you will be as enthusiastic as we are about what is being proposed. We hope to have planning applications for both schemes by the end of the year so this is your opportunity to see them and make any comments before the formal process starts.”
