Making Spelthorne Safer

The Spelthorne Safer Stronger Partnership has agreed plans and funding for schemes to be undertaken this year, to make Spelthorne Safer.

Approximately £268,000 of partnership funding will be spent this year on schemes which include:

  • Continuation of the ‘Junior Citizen’ scheme promoting positive behaviour to all primary school children – over 1100 are expected to attend
  • Continuation of the ‘Youth Café’ in Staines on Friday evening’s.
  • Targeting of persistent offenders using Anti-Social Behaviour Contracts and Orders.
  • More money for the ‘sanctuary’ scheme to protect the victims of domestic violence in their own homes.
  • Arts projects in the Staines Resource Centre.
  • Development of CCTV, including refurbishment of parts of the Staines town centre system, more cameras in parks eg Lammas and Feltham Hill Road, one at Sunbury Cross and one in Woodthorpe Road, Ashford – which will go ‘live’ shortly.
  • Further arts projects in the Sunbury Cross subway to make it more attractive to pedestrians and reduce fear of crime.
  • Improved lighting in the play areas at Hadfield Road, Stanwell.
  • Further enforcement of environmental concerns such as graffiti, abandoned vehicles, litter and stray dogs, involving the new Street Scene team.
  • Continued support for the ‘Handyman’ scheme for the elderly run by Age Concern.
  • More Partnership Action Days throughout the Borough offering crime reduction advice, licensing and vehicle enforcement, and community involvement from such groups as Neighbourhood Watch

“Our aim is to make Spelthorne safer, and we are delighted at the wide range of schemes that will be run again this year, with the involvement of a wide range of partners including the Police, County Council, Youth Offending Team, Drug and Alcohol Team, Mediation service and Surrey Fire and Rescue.
