Ashford shop has licence to sell alcohol withdrawn
Published 04.07.2011 09:12
A shop in Ashford had its licence to sell alcohol withdrawn by Spelthorne Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee at a meeting held on Wednesday 29 June.

Surrey Police called for a review of the licence held by AM 2 PM in Woodthorpe Road, Ashford, after a member of staff sold alcohol to a young person in March 2011. After the incident, Police visited the shop to obtain CCTV footage of the sale but found that staff at the shop were unable to operate the system, which is in breach of their licence conditions.

The Sub-Committee considered all the issues carefully when making their decision and felt that given the seriousness of the issues involved, the licence should be revoked.

Licensing Sub-Committee Chairman, Councillor Robin Sider said: “I have to stress the seriousness with which the sub-committee views this matter. Selling alcohol to young people is not only harmful to their health but is also strongly linked to anti-social behaviour in the Borough. The Sub-Committee has acted to protect children from harm and the Police were right to bring this matter to our attention”.
