Battle of the Bands winners

Local band, According To You, have won the 14th annual Brooklands College ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition.

The band, whose members come from Shepperton and Staines, have been together for three years and started their musical career on Spelthorne Council’s Live and Direct programme which helps young people develop their own contemporary music and performance style, either as individuals or in bands.  

After Live and Direct, the band worked with The Soundhive, a Staines based community-interest company that works with young musicians and is supported by Spelthorne Council.

The band won the Battle of the Bands competition after going head to head with seven other bands at Brooklands College on Tuesday 28 June to compete for the ABC Music trophy, £200 in music equipment vouchers and a £50 cash prize.

Cllr Penny Forbes-Forsyth, Cabinet Member for Parks and Leisure said: “We would like to congratulate the band on their fabulous success. I feel very proud to think that Live and Direct gave them a launch pad for their talents and I hope their success will inspire other young musicians”.

You can see According To You at Guilfest on Saturday 16 July and the UJam festival in Staines High Street on 11 August.
