| The Staines Monday market, held in the main pedestrianised area, will cease from Monday 4 April and move to Friday 8 April. Following full consultation, both with stall holders and local businesses, the decision has been taken to move the day of the market to a Friday in the hope that it will improve trade both for the stallholders, and as a result, local traders. The monthly craft market, currently held on a Friday, will as a result, move to Thursday. Deputy Chief Executive Nigel Lynn commented "We have experiemented for over a year now with the Monday market and, regrettably, this has not done as well as we had hoped. Maybe a combination of the recession and general public inclination to shop closer to a weekend has meant that trading had not reached the levels we anticipated. We hope that by moving the market to Friday, there will be greater takings both for stallholders and local businesses." Media enquiries to the communications team on 01784 446297/444260. |
