Surrey Youth Games - Senior Squash Team

Last weekend saw over 20 teams of children and young people from Spelthorne compete in the 15th Annual P & G Surrey Youth Games at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

There were many successes from Team Spelthorne such as their fantastic sporting attitude and support for Nutty the Squirrel in the mascot race and after much hard work and dedication, the team finished 6th overall.

Across the weekend competitors won gold in girls’ hockey and senior squash, silver in junior netball and Boccia and bronze in senior boys’ judo and junior squash. Many competitors have already gone on to join sports clubs and it is hoped that many more will be inspired to do so in the coming months.

The pre games coaching sessions, led by a dedicated team of excellent coaches and volunteers helped the competitors to improve their skills and get prepared for the competition on Saturday and Sunday.

Councillor Penny Forbes-Forsyth, Cabinet Member for Parks and Leisure said; “The P & G Surrey Youth Games is a fantastic event that promotes participation and achievement. I would encourage the celebration of all those who achieved and inspired others to try new things. Congratulations!”

In July all of the young people from Spelthorne who competed in the games will have the opportunity to celebrate their achievements as part of the annual sports awards evening which will be presented by young volunteers of this year’s games.
