The role of Environmental Health
The protection of public health is an integral part of Environmental Health policies and includes :-
preventing the spread of infectious disease, by investigating cases of food poisoning and reportable diseases.
enforcing food safety legislation, in order to prevent food poisoning and food borne illnesses.
enforcing health and safety at work legislation in order to improve working conditions and to prevent accidents.
preventing injury and illness associated with poor quality housing, by enforcing housing and public health legislation.
taking action to control environmental pollution such as air, noise and land pollution.
promoting positive health and addressing specific health issues within the community, through health promotion initiatives.
preventing the spread of disease from vermin and other pests.
improving animal welfare by licensing animal establishments.
ensuring that public attending functions are safe, by enforcing entertainment licensing.
