| Description: |
All commercial premises are required by law to comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act (1974), in order to protect employees and members of the public. This legislation is enforced by both the Health and Safety Executive and Local Environmental Health Departments.
Local Environmental Health Officers enforce this legislation within most shops, offices and certain warehouses within the Borough, whereas The Health and Safety Executive enforces this legislation in areas such as major industry, building sites, hospital, schools and railways.
Borough of Spelthorne Environmental Health Officers carry out regular inspections in local commercial premises and investigate a variety of complaints regarding health and safety issues and accidents.
