Sewage is the effluent which travels along the pipes, this can be foul or clean water depending upon the sewer. Sewer is a pipe which takes the effluent from two or more drains. Where two or more drains converge from that point onwards the pipe becomes a sewer. As the statutory undertaker, the Thames Water Authority is responsible for the maintenance of the public sewage system in Spelthorne including repairs and cleansing.
