Clearing snow from pavements and public space around homes is helpful but check the Directgov website for advice on your rights and responsibilities when clearing snow and ice from public areas. Weather updates Met Office forecast (external website) Winter fuel payment If you are aged 60 or over you may get a Winter Fuel Payment to help pay for keeping warm in winter. The amount you will get will depend on your situation. Visit the Directgov website (external website) to find out if you are eligible for this payment and how you can apply. Driving in the winter Winter is upon us and the weather is getting colder. For those that drive simply planning for the unexpected can save time, money and much inconvenience. Driving in wintery conditions needs extra consideration for both the road conditions and other road users. If you normally reverse out of your driveway, consider reversing in or parking at the end of the street. Heat your home for less Apply for discounted/free wall and loft insulation to make your home warmer and save you up to £350 on heating bills each year. Who can apply for help?
