Free Access for County Sportspeople (FACS)
Under Spelthorne Borough Council’s Free Access for County Sportspeople (FACS) scheme, county sportspeople who live in Spelthorne may be eligible to use a variety of leisure facilities free of charge.
Facilities included in the scheme:
- Spelthorne and Sunbury Leisure Centres
- Tennis courts
- Bowling greens
Eligibility:
FACS scheme members:
- must be of county standard or above in their sport and provide a supporting letter from an official of their governing body.
- must be residents of Spelthorne
- will be restricted to using facilities that complement the sport they represent their county in.

Free access for National Sportspeople (FANS)
The Free access for National Sportspeople (FANS) scheme provides sportspeople of a national level with free access to training facilities in Surrey. FANS aims to assist elite sportspeople to achieve their full potential by reducing the financial burden of training costs. Members have come to the scheme from a wide range of sports including athletics, canoeing, trampolining, triathlon, mountain biking, skiing, sailing, gymnastics and badminton.

FANS in administered by the Surrey Sports Development Unit (Active Surrey) and is supported by all eleven of Surrey’s Borough and District Councils. 38 leisure facilities are involved in the scheme including sport/ leisure centres, swimming pools, fitness gyms, athletics tracks and a range of other specialist indoor and outdoor facilities.
In addition to free access to training facilities members of the FANS scheme also benefit from a wide range of services including reduced price sports psychology, nutrition, chiropody and sports massage.
Eligibility
FANS aims to help national sportspeople of all ages who compete at a national level. To be eligible for the scheme you must be both:
- A current national sportsperson from any Sport England recognised sport at any age group. National is deemed as either a member of a national team/squad, or ranked in the top 10.
- A resident for the majority of the year in Surrey
Supporting evidence from your governing body will be required upon application (e.g. a letter from your National Governing Body inviting you to a national/ international competition, results, ranking verification)
How FANS works
Members of the Surrey FANS scheme are entitled to choose three centres from the list opposite to be their designated FANS centres. FANS members will be issued with an identity card. Members are required to show their FANS card each time they visit a centre for free access.
In return for the benefits of FANS membership, Active Surrey and participating facilities and services request FANS members assistance in promotional activity and events whenever possible.
