Spelthorne Borough Council, in conjunction with Tetra Pak Ltd and the carton industry body ACE UK (Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment), is launching a new beverage carton recycling scheme to give residents the opportunity to recycle even more of their household rubbish.
Even though cartons can still not be placed into household recycling bins, the new project means that used cartons can now be recycled through the new bins at our recycling sites (taking paper-based cartons only) across the Borough:-
- Halliford Recreation Ground car park – Shepperton
- Village Park car park, Hadfield Road, Stanwell
- The Avenue car park - Sunbury
- Elmsleigh Surface car park – Staines
- Lammas Recreation ground car park – Staines
The introduction of carton collection follows a long line of improvements that have been made over the past year including the new glass and can banks across the Borough’s recycling sites.
Cllr Gerry Forsbrey, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said “The residents of Spelthorne have always responded well to the different recycling schemes we’ve implemented across the borough. We’re delighted that Tetra Pak and the carton industry is supporting us to help increase the number of cartons recycled in Spelthorne.”
Richard Hands, Environment Manager at Tetra Pak Ltd and Chairman of ACE UK, added: “Whilst cartons are successfully recycled in large volumes for many years throughout Europe, the UK has a long way to go. It’s therefore fantastic news that Spelthorne is taking a lead by adding cartons to the list of materials collected for recycling and we very much hope that the initiative is successful.”

Please remember: wash and squash your carton before recycling and only put paper-based liquid food and drinks cartons in the recycling bins, unless otherwise specified on the bin. No plastic, card, cans, glass, plastic bags or foil.
