Spelthorne's new Crime and Disorder Reduction Strategy has now been published, setting out key priorities for the Borough Council, Surrey Police and Surrey County Council for the next 3 years.
The overall aim is "To reduce reported Crime and Disorder by 10% and to maintain the low fear of crime". Underpinning this are 7 key objectives:
To reduce:
Anti-Social Behaviour & Disorder
Criminal Damage, including Graffiti
Residential Burglary
Drug Offences and Drug Related Crime
Violent Crime
Vehicle Crime, and
To provide reassurance.
Councillor John Packman, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety says:
"Having spent 12 months developing the Strategy, we are confident that it reflects the concerns of the local community. We are committed to working with the police and a wide range of Statutory and Voluntary groups to tackle crime and disorder but we also need the support of the whole community to make Spelthorne safer."
The Crime Reduction Partnership, comprising the Borough Council, County Council and Police, is responsible for implementing and monitoring performance of the Strategy and is currently setting up Task Groups to take forward projects and initiatives.
An important element of the Strategy is already nearing completion with the appointment of two Community Wardens - Mick Raynor for Stanwell and Daniel Atkins for Sunbury Common. They are currently undergoing training and will start work in early summer.

The Partnership has a statutory duty to publish a local Crime and Disorder Strategy every 3 years and is required to conduct an audit of crime and disorder and to consult widely on priorities. The Consultation in Spelthorne involved over 3,000 people/ organisations and included two Borough wide Fear of Crime Surveys and presentations to the five Area Forums.
