Best value and business improvement |
||
| The requirement to deliver best value stems from the Local Government Act 1999. This requires every council to “make arrangements to secure continuous improvement in the way its functions are exercised, having regard to economy, efficiency and effectiveness.” Originally all our services had to be subject to a best value review within five years and the Act, with statutory instruments, laid down the issues which we had to take into account in each review. This five year time scale no longer applies and we can now set our own programme to concentrate on areas of most importance to Spelthorne residents and which present the biggest opportunities for service improvements. Our Corporate Plan commits us to undertake business improvement reviews and implement recommendations in order to reduce our operating costs. |
