Ready, steady, ho, ho, ho!
The 2010 Spelthorne Santa Sprint will take place at 9.30am on Sunday 5 December. Come along, dress up as Santa and take part in the 1.5 mile fun run/walk through the centre of Staines.
The event is suitable for all ages, although under 11’s must be accompanied by an adult.
SLM will be providing a fitness instructor from Spelthorne Leisure Centre to lead a group warm up prior to the start of the run.
The event costs £8 for adults and £5 for children, which includes a Santa suit. Runners can choose to run for their chosen charity and sponsor forms will be provided.
Fun for all the family is guaranteed.
The closing date for registration is Tuesday 30 November.

A public inquiry is being held following the refusal of planning permission at Riverside Works, Fordbridge Road, Sunbury on Thames. The public inquiry is due to start at 10am on Tuesday 16 November at the Spelthorne Council Offices, Knowle Green Staines, TW18 1XB.

Do you know that brown garden waste bins currently cost £25 rather than £45. This reduced price covers the service until 31 March 2011 (there are no collections in December and January).

Best of British Brass
Staines Salvation Army Band and Choir are performing at The Salvation Army Citadel, Woodthorpe Road, Ashford on Saturday 20 October 2010 starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from 01784 211977 or 0208 977 8885 or at the door. The event is in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. RNLI souvenirs will be on sale and refreshments will be served.

Classical music concerts at the Riverside Arts Centre, Lower Sunbury
Sunbury and Shepperton Arts Association (SSAA) presents the second of its Winter 2010/11 season of Saturday morning coffee concerts at the Riverside Arts Centre, 59 Thames Street, Lower Sunbury, on Saturday 6 November.
The concert will feature a performance by Rachel Major, soprano, who will perform a song recital including many well-known pieces and some which may be new to members of the audience. Rachel recently delighted her audience at St Nicholas Church, Shepperton, during this year’s SSAA Festival when she sang with Ashford Baroque Ensemble.
Coffee and croissants will be served from 10.15am and the recital will commence at 11am. Tickets cost £7.50, which includes refreshments and are available via the box office on 01932 782788 or on the door from 10.15am on 6 November.

Dig It - Stanwell
Ever wanted to 'grow your own', start a new hobby and save money?
Come along and find out how this can be achieved, no experience necessary, materials free of charge.
Monday 1 November 11.15am - 1pm at the Community House, 2 Laburnum Way, Stanwell (off Holywell Way).
Plant winter bulbs - Find out about soil types and start planting bulbs to take home free and try home made scones and jam. All welcome.

- Monday 15 November - Plant seeds and grow your own
- Monday 29 November - Plant a hanging basket, all materials included
- Monday 6 December - Make a wreath and natural decorations
Volunteers are needed to make raised beds for planting.

London 2012 Young Leaders programme
Ten young people from Spelthorne are taking part in the London 2012 BP Young Leaders Programme which will culminate in their holding leading volunteer roles at the London 2012 Olympics. Nationwide there are 100 young people being mentored by BP managers in preparation for their involvement in the Games.

Off the Hook - Saturday 13 November
Off the Hook is Spelthorne’s very own specialist skateboard session. It takes place at Spelthorne Leisure Centre and is for skateboarders and inline skaters aged 11 to 19.
All abilities are welcome and the young people can hire skateboards and helmets. Off the Hook runs on the second Saturday of each month during the winter from 6pm to 8.30pm and costs £5.
The aim of the event is to provide a safe indoor place for young people to come and practice their skills and try new tricks. Young local skaters are involved with organising the event.
