Council Tax - are you still entitled to the single person discount?
Around 30% of Spelthorne households currently benefit from a reduction in their Council Tax because they are living in single person households. However recent research has shown that as many as 5% of these claims could be incorrect.
Residents whose circumstances have changed and do not currently qualify for the single person discount have until 23 July to advise the Council. After this date, the Council will be carrying out residency checks and anyone found to be falsely claiming the single person discount may be prosecuted. Cllr Vivienne Leighton, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources said: “Council Tax payers contacting us before 23 July will not incur a penalty. The correct Council Tax charge will be calculated and revised bills issued.”
If you think you may no longer be entitled to a Council Tax discount, contact the Revenues Team on 01784 446490, write to Revenues Office, PO Box 291, Staines, TW18 1UY or e-mail ctax@spelthorne.gov

Spelthorne Employment and Development Trends - February 2010
This fact sheet (Word 244kb) provides information on employment and housing development trends in the Borough. Please note the unemployment figure is based on the monthly claimant count figures, which measure only those people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA). The claimant count is normally a lower figure than those seeking work because some unemployed people are not entitled to claim unemployment related benefits, or choose not to do so.

This year's Water Saving Week is taking place from 12-18 June. The theme is 'three reasons to save water - save energy, save money, be green'.
One in eight people across the world lacks access to safe drinking supplies and, with the planet heating up and droughts becoming more common, we all need to start taking responsibility for the water we use. Water Saving Week aims to help you save water and consider your actions, thereby saving you money and helping to secure our shared and scarce water source.
