| Elections in our area The council is responsible for the running of all Parliamentary, European Parliamentary, Surrey County Council, Borough Council elections as well as any by-elections in this area. We would also be required to administer a referendum if one is called. The UK Parliamentary (General) election must be held before May 2010 although the present government can call an election at any time. Once we have received the writ from Parliament informing us of the election date there is 17 days to polling day from when we publish the notice of election. Your current MP is Mr David Wilshire. European Parliamentary elections are every five years and the next elections are scheduled for 4 June 2009. Find out who your current MEP's are. Surrey County Council elections are every four years and the next elections are scheduled for 7 May 2009. This date is still be confirmed as the goverment may seek to combine it with the European Parliamenty election being held in June of the same year.
