Homelessness | Hostel and night shelter accommodation

If you are single and unable to secure accommodation you can look for night shelters and hostels in Surrey (usually just a bed space with shared facilities). Our Emergency Accommodation leaflet (Pdf 237kb) provides contact details, lists hostels that require a referral from a local authority and those that offer direct access (you can just turn up and apply for a place, this is called self-referral). There is no guarantee that they will have a room available and if they do, conditions often apply before they will accept you.

You must take proof of your identity (birth certificate, passport or driving licence) and confirmation of your income and benefits.  It is also a good idea to take your National Insurance number with you.  You will be charged for your accommodation, so you will either need to pay your charges from your income or you will need to claim Housing Benefit.
