Introduction

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 requires us to conduct and publish an audit of local crime and disorder at Borough level.  This was undertaken to determine the priorities of the Partnership for the next three years.  A new strategy for 20005/08 has been published.  In determining our priorities we have to also take account of Government priorities.

The Spelthorne Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) consulted extensively to obtain local views.  These consultations included,

  1. Comprehensive, Borough-wide fear of crime surveys, of both residents and businesses,
  2. Presentations to: five area forums, Spelthorne Primary Heads and Secondary Heads/Principals, Spelthorne Local Strategic Partnership Executive, and Assembly, Borough Councillors, Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators and,
  3. Survey in the Borough Bulletin distributed to all residents and businesses in Spelthorne.
We also took account of findings from other consultations undertaken by the Borough Council e.g. Best Value Review of Young People –“Your Shout” Consultation Event, ODPM General Satisfaction Survey and Prioritising Spending on Services – NOP Discussion Groups.  Consultations undertaken by the Police Authority were also reviewed.

Our priorities

Having met the statutory requirements and consulted widely, the CDRP has identified the following priorities for the 2005/08 Strategy:

  1. Anti-social behaviour (including criminal damage and arson)
  2. National Priority Crimes (including vehicle crime, burglary, drugs and violent crime)
  3. Feeling safe (including community engagement, physical environment and positive communications)
